Activists Urge Kroger to Remove Trump Appointee from the Board

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that a DC-based activist group is objecting to the Kroger board’s selection of former Trump cabinet member Elaine Chao as a director:

A Washington, D.C.-based progressive watchdog organization is paying for a mobile billboard this week in Cincinnati that urges the Kroger Co. to drop former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao from its board of directors.

The billboard, arranged by Accountable.US, declares: “Kroger: Fresh for everyone? There’s nothing fresh about complicity. Drop Elaine Chao.”

It is displayed on the side of a truck that will be driving around the national supermarket’s corporate headquarters on Vine Street in Cincinnati from Tuesday through Saturday, according to a spokesperson for Accountable.US.

The organization, which lists exposing “right-wing corruption” as one of its main initiatives, specifically took issue with Chao’s prior service under former President Donald Trump.

“If Kroger was interested in living up to its values, it wouldn’t associate with Elaine Chao, let alone select her to serve on its board,” Accountable.US President Kyle Herrig said in a statement. “Actions speak louder than words, and Kroger’s decision to elevate a top Trump official complicit in the former president’s anti-democratic and inhumane agenda speaks volumes.”
